A New Sidekick

Years ago, I started a blog entitled, “Not a Mega Church” that was designed to help offer strategy and resources to Youth Directors who work at smaller churches.  It was also a great opportunity for me to test ideas that I was working on considering that I was working at smaller church at the time as well.

My blog changed in Oct. 2010 when I got hired by New Life Christian Church as their Family Minister.  It changed because New Life was a big church and desired to be an even bigger church.  Because I was apart of New Life I felt that I needed to change my blog to address other issues student and family ministers face.  That is when I introduced “Ministry Blackboard”.

However, as much as I loved the concept of “Ministry Blackboard”, it never connected with me the way that “Not a Mega Church” did.  So, today, I’m rebranding.  I’m rebranding sooner than I expected in large part because my site was hacked and I could not keep consistent security on it.  However, I’m rebranding because I felt that this better encompasses what I want to do with this blog.sidekick

I’ve always loved Sidekicks.  The most famous sidekick of all was Batman’s faithful partner, Robin.  He was and still is by far my favorite.  I know, laugh it up, but seriously, I’ve always wanted to be a sidekick to some great superhero.

Hence, welcome to YM Sidekick.  YM Sidekick will continue the theme of the previous blog titles by helping student and family ministers better strategize and meet the needs of their respective ministries.  It is my I hope that this blog and the discussions that arise can be a helpful Sidekick to you and your ministry.  You all are the real superheroes, I’m just trying to be a helpful assistant to the great things you all are doing.

In addition to the regular blog posts, I’m starting a new YM Sidekick Program to help coach Student Ministers become better ministers and their program become more organized.  I’ve been doing full-time Youth Ministry for over 15 years working in a variety of churches and ministries.  With this background, I feel fully equipped and ready to coach fellow student ministers, especially those who are relatively new to ministry and are working with a limited budget.

The bottom line (as Orange likes to highlight) is that I am here to be your YM Sidekick.  Whether it is through posting on the blog or through some coaching along the way, whatever I can do to help you all in your great ministries, I’m here for you.  Just throw out that Batsign (email, Twitter, Facebook) and I’ll be happy to partner along with you all…enough with the sidekick, superhero references, you get the point.
