Ministry Debrief of that event that happened last night

UnknownAs much as it pains me, now that it’s over and done with, we can officially name the New England Patriots as the Super Bowl Champions.  Many of us are wondering what Seattle was doing throwing the ball on the 1 yard line when you have one of the best running backs in the league. Yet, it happened and it was intercepted and hence the Patriots did win. Now we wait another year for a new champion to be crowned.

Regardless of the outcome of the game, the good and bad commercials and Katy Perry’s Halftime performance (which I did not see because of our own Halftime show), it is time debrief and reflect on what your Student Ministry did or did not do yesterday.

If your Student Ministry DID NOT do a Super Bowl gathering, the question is, why not?  Why wouldn’t you take this opportunity, a night in which basically everyone watches the game whether they like the teams or not, to introduce new people to your ministry and what you have going on?  As I’ve said before, the Super Bowl is the biggest outreach event our Student Ministry does all year.  We really pump it up and it is always a great time.

If you didn’t do a Super Bowl gathering yesterday, what about next year?  How could you use the Super Bowl as a great ministry opportunity for your students and their friends who may have no clue who Christ is?

If you did a Super Bowl gathering, here are some of the questions our ministry is asking now:

  • What was good about what we did?
  • What was bad?
  • What needs to be changed for next year?
  • How was the food situation?  Did we have enough food and what would we add or change about the type of food for next year?
  • How could we improve on communication to parents and students?
  • How was our Halftime show?
  • How was the message?  How could it have been better?
  • How was set up and clean up?

Again, these are just some of the questions we’ll be discussing today and the rest of the week.  Our Super Bash ended up being a great event where we had almost 100 students come out and participated.  They had fun, got a great experience at Church and got to hear about Christ.  It was a win in a lot of ways and I am grateful for God and our team for the night.

Share your experiences and thoughts on your Super Bowl gathering.  What is something you learned, something that went over well or something that may not have gone so well yesterday?
