Choosing to start the fall STRONG

In life there are a lot of things out of our control. It’s unfortunate but the reality is that we can’t control the weather. We can’t control time. And we can’t control natural disasters. As great it would be for us to be able to control those things, we just can’t. They out of our control.

The fall season is upon us. School is back in session for most of us and others will begin in the next week or so. Just like the start of the calendar year, I love the fall season because it gives us a chance to start over and begin again (by the way, “Begin Again” is a great movie you might want to check out sometime soon). Which brings us to an interesting situation.

I don’t know what your status is like headed into the fall season. You could have had a great summer with lots of momentum and excitement in the program. Or, you could have had a really crummy summer with some discouraging things happening. The reality is what is past is past. Good and bad, they are over and gone.  They are OUT OF YOUR CONTROL.

However, there are some things that are completely IN your control.

As we are entering the fall, we have to focus on things we CAN control. We can control:

fall
This fall you are in complete control of your attitude, effort and preparedness.
  1. Our attitude. When things out of control happen, you can choose to pout and be upset about it. Or you can choose to not let it affect your attitude. You are bigger than anything and with Christ by your side you will overcome it with a great attitude.
  2. Our effort. Things may look bleak right now. It happens from time to time. Every ministry goes through some bad season. But that doesn’t have to affect your effort. Work hard and give it your all in everything you do.
  3. Our preparation. Your preparedness is YOUR choice. Make sure that no matter what happened you are prepared. You put in a complete effort in your message and group details. Things may not work out as planned but just make sure they didn’t work out because you weren’t prepared.

Those are just some of what you can control. Ultimately, if you want to to start the year off right, YOU CONTROL that. It’s on you. You can choose to start the year strong by what you do. Do not let the circumstances around you effect how YOU CHOOSE to start your year. Go in with a great attitude, give a great effort and trust the Lord to effectively guide you through it all.
