Youth Ministry Q of the Month: Fall Weekends
When I was the Youth Pastor at Cedar Run, I always tried to do Fall weekends with my youth. We would try to go to Ocean City, MD in October. The purpose was to start the school year off right and get the students really pumped for the year and the ministry that lies ahead of them. It was also a great opportunity to build community with the leaders and students. In fact, the community building aspect of those weekends always helped build momentum for the year and propelled the unity within the group.
With that being said, the Youth Ministry Question of the Month is do you take a fall weekend with your students or not? Why or why not? Are they really worth it? What is your purpose in doing them or NOT doing them? How have you seen them succeed or fail?
TAKE A MINUTE right now and think through your thoughts on a Fall Weekend. Then, post a comment so that we can all learn and benefit from your experience.

We do a Back-2-School weekend retreat soon after the students start back in the routine of the school year. I find that we are able to begin the year with a new focus for them for realizing that their school is their mission field. Also, it is a great time to "break in" the new 7th graders, whose moms are nervous about them going off on their first trip. I really look forward to the individualized group time we get, where we make our own schedule and stay up late having an impromptu dance session together. Memories are made, and God's challenges are given. Good times.
