Orange Week: Best Breakout Session

Did you ever leave a breakout session at a conference or training day thinking, “This is a great idea, but there is NO way I can do this at my church”.  I think at one time or another we have all felt this way.  The ideas this speaker was talking about were great, but the reality of transferring what they did to your ministry was just downright impossible.

When I was a 1st year Middle School Intern many years ago, my Youth Director took myself and our High School Intern to Willow Creek for their Church Leadership Conference.  It was a great experience with me to be with my team and to discuss all the possibilities there were for our ministry.

During that leadership conference, I got to experience first hand the middle school ministry and what they did.  Now, it wasn’t much different than what I was doing but it was being done on a much grander scale!  More people attending = money tithing = more money in your budget = bigger toys!  Just kidding, but seriously, they had some great things there.

The cool thing about watching the middle school ministry in action was that it was apart of their breakout session on middle school ministry.  As each thing was happening a leader would walk through with all of us what they were doing and why they were doing it.  They gave us principles to live by and they took time to answer our questions.  I left thinking, “I can do this” at my church.  What a great, uplifting feeling to have.
