The Monday Morning Debrief: Letting your light Shine
This past week, Huguette Clark died. Who is Hugeutte Clark you ask? Hugeutte had a fortune of $500,000,000 that she inherited largely from her copper mining magnate father, W.A. Clark. For much of the last two decades she has spent most of her time keeping people away from her. She divorced in 1930 and never remarried. After her mother Anna died in 1963, she cut herself off from the world, shutting herself into the family’s massive apartments at 907 Fifth Avenue, in New York (42 total rooms!!!). She also owns a beach house in Santa Barbara and a country home in Conn. which is currently on sale for $23 million! To read more about her and the $500,000,000 she left behind, click here.
So how does a person dying and the millions she left behind apply to ministry at all? Here is how.
Hugeutte left behind $500 million dollars to basically no one. Sure that is a lot of money but she basically left it to no one. She has chosen to cut herself off from the world for about 20 years investing her life into no one else. Now it is up to others to fight for her money – even though most hardly no one knew her.
So my question is, who are you investing your life into? Don’t just think, “I’m in ministry, I invest my life into the students or children that I’m in charge of”. Think outside the box here. Who are the friends not associated with your ministry you are investing into? Who are the family members you are investing in? Who are your neighbors you are investing in? Who are the community service workers you are talking to and caring about?
Christ calls us to “go and make disciples of all nations” letting our “light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Outside of your “ministry” position, who are you spending time with and pouring the Love of Christ into? TAKE A MINUTE and…
- think through who you are investing in outside of your “ministry”
- how you are investing in them
- what more you can do to share the Love of Christ with them
I have seen so many times that the ministry of people who don’t get paid for their work is very fruitful. You may not be getting paid to reach out to others, but it can be just as rewarding and God can use you to make an eternal impact in the life of someone else.
