What to do when “Youth Group” isn’t Effective Anymore
Ever since I can remember, every youth program I have ever been apart of as a teen or leader, there has always been a “youth group” night. It could have been on a Sunday night or night during the week, but there was always this night where the whole middle school or high school group got together to have fellowship, sing some songs, play a game or two and then participate in a lesson from the Bible.
While those nights were impactful for me growing up and have been impactful for others, they aren’t for everyone. In fact, depending on the area you live in, I openly wonder if they are practical and impactful for a majority of teens these days. So what can you and your ministry do if “youth group” isn’t working? Here is one thing we did that has been working quite well.
Home Groups have helped us turn the corner in reaching students in our communities. While they weren’t coming back for “youth group” they were going to homes where they got a home cooked meal, great community and relational time, fun and a great discussion about life and Christ.
If youth group isn’t working for you, I would highly recommend you give it a shot in your ministry. As I outline in these other Home Group posts below, it changed the way we did ministry and has been very effective in helping reach more students in our communities.
