Connect the Name to the Impact

I have a friend of mine who likes to name drop. He likes to tell me he talked to this person or that person all the time. The funny thing about it is that most of the time, if not all the time, I have no idea who he is talking about. I’m like, “who?”.

In the same way, I think a lot of times when we talk about Jesus to other people, it is just like name dropping a random name to people. They are like “huh” because they don’t know who he is and why he is important to us. And, more importantly how he can be impactful in their life.

We live in a post-christian world these days. Children are not being raised up hearing about the stories of Jesus like they did decades ago (Ben Kerns and I specifically talk about this in a podcast a while back.). So the name of Jesus doesn’t have the power that it had years ago. That is why we cannot assume people know the power of Jesus. We have to show them. We have to teach them.

How? One of the ways is by sharing with the name of Jesus with the impact he has had in your life. By sharing your story and the impact He hs had in your life people are more likely to associate Jesus with life change.

Associate the name of Jesus with stories – not just from the Bible but from your life. If people can’t see the power of Jesus in your life, why would they follow?

In Luke 19:1-10, Jesus met Zacchaeus where he was at. Zacchaeus was not a good guy. People hated him. But he mattered to Jesus. He didn’t have to go through hoops and hurdles just to be able to sit and hang with Jesus. Jesus wanted to hang with him. So they did and his life was changed.

And what did Zacchaeus do when he met with Jesus? He told his friends about it and they all had the chance to have their lives changed. He connected the name of Jesus with the impact that Jesus had in his life and, thus, can have in the lives of others.

In order for people to associate the name of Jesus with life change and impact, we have to be like Zacchaeus. So this week, name drop Jesus to someone but then share who he is to you and why that matters. Give people the hope in Christ by sharing the stories of Christ’s impact in your life. Connect the name of Jesus with impact and life change. It will make a difference.

What do you think? How do you share about Jesus to others? How do you connect the name with impact and life change? Share your experiences below or on social media using #ymsidekick when you share.
