Snow Days

Yesterday was the biggest December snow fall ever in the Washington, DC area.  In the area that surrounds our Church, we had around 20 inches of snow.photo This has caused many of the Churches to cancel services today and even some school districts to cancel school on Monday and Tuesday!

This snow has had a big impact on our youth calendar.

  1. We had a great Sunday morning service planned with a big Christmas based theme that we are no longer going to be able to do.
  2. We had to cancel our White Elephant Christmas Party for the night.  We are still possibly going to do it another day, but don’t know as of yet.
  3. On Monday, we have our first ever Decorating Dealio in which we invited students and leaders to help us redecorate and redesign the youth rooms.  That is now in question as it was a late afternoon, evening timeframe and with the bad and icy backroads, I am wondering if it is too risky to try to do.
  4. On Tuesday night, we have our Annual Leader Christmas Party in which we were going to go out to eat and then head into D.C. to see and take pictures around the National Christmas tree.  The reason this one is in question is because I just don’t know how the roads will be onTuesday night on the backroads, etc.

Had these events just been a regular “youth group” night, I would have no problem canceling and moving on.  But, these are special events that the students and leaders look forward to.  Ah, decisions, decisions.  That is why Youth Ministers get paid the big bucks, right?!

What do you do when weather or other things cancel or change plans?
