CSRM Day 1

Yesterday was the 1st day of the CSRM Summit. CSRM stands for Church Sports Recreation Ministry and is a group dedicated to encouraging ministries and churches in sharing the gospel with others through sports. I became familiar with CSRM because of what New Life is doing with the nZone.

Since I have no prior experience with formal sports and rec ministry I am spending the next few days at the CSRM Summit in Indianapolis basically networking with others and learning from their successes and failures. Here are some of the things I did/learned today:

  1. 3 Lessons from Elijah: He was a man of prayer, he believed that he was God’s representative and that he believed he + God was the majority
  2. God is still building His church.  Sports and Rec ministry is just 1 avenue that God is using to build it
  3. A biblical sports ministry involves fellowship (relationships amongst believers) and friendship (relationships between believers and non-believers).
  4. Sports ministry needs to be more than just fellowship.  It needs intentional evangelism.
  5. Sports and Rec ministry won’t succeed unless we get them plugged into the church
  6. David Dean is a really funny guy.
  7. The Indianapolis Indians (Pirates “AAA” baseball team) has a great stadium.
  8. The NCAA Hall of Champions is not as impressive as I thought it would be.  But at least I had a good date 🙂
