Friday Morning General Session Highlights

My apologies but I was not able to post as much about the general session as I have in the past ones.  However, here is what Doug Fields had to say during his talk at the Session:

Perspective is a powerful tool in the life of a leader.

As a church we are good at many things, but 1 thing we are not very good at developing leaders.  Rarely is developing leaders intentional.  It is accidental.

So many leaders are filled with self-preservation – it’s “my ministry”.  Our identity is based on what we are doing in “my ministry”.

Instead of being a self-preservation leader, we can choose today to MOVE and become a new type of leader.  It is called the Spotlight Leader – 1 who puts others in the spotlight

Just because you put someone in the spotlight on an area of ministry you don’t care about, that doesn’t make you a Spotlight Leader.

A Spotlight Leader is:

  1. Secure. Be secure enough to move a step back so that someone else can move a step forward.  Don’t crave the spotlight.  Help others, for the sake of the kingdom, be in the spotlight.
  2. Searches. Search your leaders because everyone wants to be in the game.  Everyone wants to be involved.  Search to see where your leaders can shine and have the spotlight put on them.
  3. Servant. Work behind the scenes serving others.  Servant are rarely ever recognized.  It’s not a new principle, it’s just rare.

We can make the move from self-preservation to spotlight.  They are not competition.  They are our team.  When we become a spotlight leader, everyone wins – Christ, the Kingdom, your team and you.
