Taking a step back and presenting the Truth

This quick clip with Dustin Hoffman from AFI talking about the classic movie, “Tootsie” has been making its way around various people’s Facebook pages the last couple of days. Check it out.

The part I like the most here is his admission that he missed out on the opportunity to meet interesting women because of his brainwashing of what a “woman” should be.  It was profound for me because this is coming from someone NOT in the “Christian world”.  This isn’t a pastor, Christian writer or even a blogger.  This is a great, successful and very liberal actor saying this.

In our Student Ministry this past Tuesday we kicked off our series on Truth and Lies with this clip.  Too often we have been brainwashed to believe certain things about who we are to date, what type of person we should hang out with, what we should do in our social time and what we should believe.  This “brainwashing” ultimately affects who we become.  That is why this summer we are doing this series on Truth and Lies we hear every day. We need take a step back every-now-and-then and examine what the Truth really is and we believe that that Truth is found in the Bible.  It is the most excited I have been about a summer series in the many years I have been doing youth ministry and I sense our students are excited about it as well.

What are you doing this summer to teach Truth to your students?  Each program is different.  Each ministry is different.  But if we aren’t taking time to present the Truth to students this summer, I feel that we all are missing out.

Thoughts?  Experiences?  Post a comment and share so that we can all benefit and learn from each other.
