Lessons from Vacation #3: Have Fun

We got back from our beach trip and the very next day we were back to the grind…softball practice!  But, it was at softball practice that I was reminded of a very important lesson for our leadership teams.  That was to Have fun together.

images-1After a 2 hour practice in which the coaches pushed and challenged the girls, they ended it with a game of kickball. And, the girls loved it!  Even after being in the hot sun and really giving it their all, they had more than enough energy to laugh and run around with their coaches having fun playing kickball. That is bonding time for them and bonding time is just as important as any other time teams are with their coaches.

Whether you are a volunteer leading people or a Department Head or any other kind of Ministry leader, as leaders of teams we need to incorporate “fun” into our time with our leaders.  Why? Because it shows that you care and that they are worth more to you than just what they can do for you.

It shows them that you don’t just care about what they do for you, but that you actually care about who they are.  It shows that you enjoy their company and being around them.  Ultimately, it shows them that you aren’t just “using” them for their gift.  You are genuinely interested in them.

And because you have fun with them and bond, it unites us as a team.  That is why when you have fun, you bond with your team and show them that you care about them.

And, the more we have fun together as a Leadership team, the more our teams will grow together, stay together longer and will make a greater impact on others because of it.
