How should the Church respond to what is happening in the NFL?

Has any organization ever have a tougher week than the NFL the past week to ten days? Whether it was stuff about Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson or the 2 other players dealing with domestic violence, they NFL have had their fair share of controversy recently. It has been the headline story after headline story.

So, with it being all over the news lately, that probably means a lot of our children (both our own and those we minister to) have heard about it, seen the pictures and have watched the video.

So what we tell them? How do we respond to the questions they are asking about their favorite players and team? After all, with it being all over the news, there have been plenty of opinions about the actions of the NFL and the players.

Here is what Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Cris Carter said about child abuse.

Here is what ESPN Anchorwoman Hannah Storm said about domestic violence.

With so many talking heads giving their own opinion and thoughts about the matter, it’d be good to hear what we, as the church can do to address it as well. Are we going to address it? If so, how AND what do we communicate to the children, teens, parents, etc. about all this stuff? If we say nothing, I believe we miss an opportunity to speak Truth into the lives of young people and families.

So, what say you? What should we do? Share your thoughts below.
