Always learning

Last week was a big week for the Online Campus.  It was the week we had our 1st ever rebroadcast of our Sunday Services.  What’s a rebroadcast?  A rebroadcast is the replaying of a modified Sunday service during the week.  We had two scheduled for the week.

Leading up to the rebroadcast, I was a nervous wreck.  This nervousness was in large part because my safety-net of a helper/supporter tech guru, Pat, was out of town.  Now, being out of town is fine, but he wasn’t just out of town.  He was actually out of the country which basically made him unable to be reached.  So, not having him around to answer my questions and make sure things were running smoothly was very stressful.

With Pat being out of town, it also reminded me a very valuable lesson.  I always have to keep learning.

The reality is, as ministry leaders, we need to know how things work in our ministry.  And if we don’t know how something works in our ministry, we need to figure it out.  We need to keep learning.

I knew how to do most of my ministry, but truthfully, I didn’t know how to run some of the tech side of the rebroadcasting of services.  So, this past week I had to learn.  I had to explore the site and really figure out how to do it.  Thankfully I wasn’t at a complete loss because Pat gave me some instructions on what I needed to do to get the rebroadcast going.  But, because I was so stressed about the rebroadcast, I really explored the site so I could make sure that I knew how things worked just in case Pat left again, I would know what to do.

After exploring the site and looking over Pat’s notes, I felt comfortable about the rebroadcast and I even discovered a few new things.

When the night for rebroadcasting came, although I was really nervous about it coming through, it ended up being a good night.  We experienced some hick ups but overall it was a good experience.
