How you can show your leaders you care

We can’t do ministry without leaders – both paid and volunteer.  Not only do you need to find the right leaders to come along side of you, but you need to be able to keep them.

So how do you keep them?  Watch this short video of an insight I received from my dad:

You keep your leaders by showing them you care about them.  How do you do that?  You can do it a variety of ways.  You can do that by:

  1. Treat them to a meal
  2. Give them a gift card
  3. Send them a birthday note, card or cake (hey why not a cake :))
  4. Treat them to a fun night out

Again, these are just a few but there are a variety of ways you can show them that you care about them. But, despite all these great things you can do for them, you may still miss the mark a little.

What do you mean? How do you know who they are?  By really get to know them…not in the superficial way.  But genuinely get to know what makes them tick, what they love, what they hate…you know, like a real friend would.  As you get to know what makes them tick, you are able to really appreciate them.

leadersFor instance, say you want to appreciate your leaders so you get them a gift card.  If you don’t really know your leaders, you get them a generic Starbucks gift card or card to Target. For some, that might be great but for others, they may not like Starbucks or shop at Target.  Therefore that “appreciation” gift is meaningless because they can’t use it.

By really knowing them, you show them you care enough about them to think of them and what they enjoy and like. By showing them you know them you both win.  They feel appreciated and you keep a valued friend/leader longer.
