The Value of Wishing Someone a Happy Birthday on Facebook

Every day you turn to Facebook you see a list of your friends who have birthdays that day. And when you see it, you have 2 options. You can wish them a “Happy Birthday” or you can choose to ignore them. In this short video you see the importance of wishing someone a Happy Birthday on Facebook.

It’s a simple phrase. “Happy Birthday”! But it goes a long way.And here is why. It is showing youth and teens that you care about them AND it provides you an opportunity to reconnect with a person not currently in your ministry.

For instance, here is a scenario. Say you had a student in your student ministry program but left either through graduation or falling through the cracks in some way. And say this student wasn’t following Christ much and not really involved in a Church. You may or may not know this at that time, but when their birthday came up and you wished them a “happy birthday” it may cause them to reflect on the positive experiences they had in the youth program. And, that reflection, could help them start to rediscover God in some way.

Now this scenario may or may not ever happen, but if we see someone with a birthday that day on Facebook, maybe a simple, “Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great day” wish could go a long way in helping them in their faith in some way. God uses so many different things to draw people back to Him this is not out of the realm of possibility.

So something you can do each and every day is wish everyone on your “birthday list” a happy birthday and see how God uses it. It sounds so simple, but it could be just what that person needed to start looking back to Christ.
