Don’t just “get by” on Social Media

By now most Churches have some sort of social media presence. At least I hope most churches have at least a Facebook page set up (if you don’t, you can watch this quick video on how easy it is to set one up). Social media has become a very important, if not the most vital, communication tool churches can use to create community, inspire others and inform.

That is why every Church should engage and become active in social media. But it is not enough just to “get by” and have a presence on social media. You can do so much more than just posting without a strategy.

Here are a few things you can be doing to become more active on social media that will benefit not just those you are already in contact with but will help you reach more people.

  • strategy Post daily. The easiest way to start getting more involved in ministering to people on social media is to be consistently posting. Make it a goal to post daily. Seek to inspire and encourage others and see what happens. You can post photos, encourage others by wishing people a happy birthday, or share any of these other options as well. Have fun with it and try a variety of different things to see what engages people the most.
  • Seek to engage. Posting daily will get you going and help people realize that they can turn to your social media account to get daily encouragement. As they get encouragement they are probably going to be responding to them by posting comments. Respond to those comments and seek to engage with those who are posting comments or responding to tweets. The more you can engage with those who are commenting, the more active your audience will become.
  • Look at the possibility of ads. Facebook is a machine. They have the possibility of so much reach these days. The only problem is organic reach is not as strong as it used to be on Facebook. However, you can do paid ads on Facebook that will get you a lot of reach. As unfortunate as it is to have to pay for ads, the great news is that Facebook ads are really cheap. For as little as $1 a day you can boost a post that will reach hundreds daily and the more money you boost it for the more reach you can get. So look into ads. It can really ad to your social media presence.

Social media is a powerful tool that churches can use to reach more people for Christ. Because of the tremendous impact you can have on social media, it is not just good enough to “get by” on social media. There should be a strategy involved as well. These are 3 things you can do to become more engaged and active on social media, but there are more opportunities for people. That is why you should continue to test and try different things on social media in order to come up with a strategy that works best for you and your ministry.

So, what is your strategy? How do you make sure that you don’t just “get by” on social media? Share your thoughts and experiences below or on social media.
