3 Ways You Can Connect in a Social Distancing World

The world had turned upside down. COVID-19, the coronavirus has spread over most of the world. And every part of the world has been affected by it in some way. While some of the world is opening back up, other parts are still hunkering down. People are still isolating themselves. They are staying locked in their homes and when they do go out they are using social distancing. There is very little in person social interaction going on now. And again, even as the world begins to reopen, people are going to take precautions until a vaccine or really good treatment for the virus is created.

While it is a very good thing to be social distancing and self-isolating,  what happens when we do that is that we miss connections. We miss the community with have with others and it directly affects who we are. We need that connection.

social distancingSo, in a world of social distancing, how can you find meaningful connection? Here are 3 connections you can make:

Connect with others online.

  • Call a friend, FaceTime them or connect on a Zoom call. Talk to them just as you would on any other occasion. Just because we’ve been social distancing for a while doesn’t mean someone doesn’t need to be encouraged and talked to. Cheer them on and root for them in whatever they are doing. Be the encouraging person.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
  • Connect with an online Bible Study group. You can create one through YouVersion. You could also create a Facebook Group as a Life Group.

Connect with Christ.

  • In James 4:8, ESV it says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you”. You may be isolated but you are not alone. God is with you. Use this time as an opportunity to connect with God and grow in your faith.

Connect with Yourself and your family

  • Embrace the Isolation. I know it is hard to be still and not do much, but use this time to ask God to minister to you and guide you. He could teach you some very important things about yourself. Be open to that and embrace it.
  • Connect with your family. We have become so busy in the world that we don’t know how to relax and enjoy the company of others. Take time to embrace this time. It will be gone before you know it and you’ll regret not having this opportunity again. This very well could be just the time you and your family need together to make new memories and start new traditions.

We crave connection. We desire community. That is why so many people are feeling this rush to reopen the world so we can all be together. But just because we are social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t have meaningful connection and community. Here are 3 simple things but they can be really impactful for you as you look to make meaningful connections in this social distancing world.
