The Importance of taking your Leaders to get Professional Training

Every year the reThink Group takes their Orange Conference on the road and does tour stops at various cities around the country to share the conference in a 1 day training. This is great for people who can’t make it to Atlanta for the conference.

Last week the Orange Tour came to Richmond, VA for their tour stop. I was really excited about this year because we had a few leaders go who had never been to any of the Orange trainings before (this week’s podcast will be me interviewing one of those leaders sharing their thoughts on what they learned). However, I wasn’t able to make it because of 2 sick kids in my house. It was quiet to the bummer to say the least.

However, what made up for missing it was to hear the reactions of the leaders who did went and to see other leaders from all over tweet about what they were learning from the Orange Tour all day. And that is when it really hit home.

Why is that? It’s simple really. Because when you get trained and inspired it is just you. You are the only one who comes back from that training trying to impart the wisdom and the excitement you have with others.

However, when you take a team of people with you to get trained by professions like the reThink Group, something else happens.

  •  They get trained by people who have been doing this a long time. There is value from them hearing from some experts who have done the research and who is good at sharing the practical information to others.
  • They get inspired by people other than you. Leaders get inspired by you all the time…at least I hope they do. But this is a chance for them to get inspired by someone else who tells them basically the same thing you do but in a different way. It’s like having that volunteer leader tell a student the exact same thing a parent would, but that the kid actually listens because it’s a different voice.
  • You get to experience it along with them!  As the main person in charge of this leadership team, you get to experience all they are with them, while it is happening. You aren’t teaching them. You are LEARNING WITH them. And you can process what you are all learning together. It’s a big difference.

When your leaders get trained and inspired multiple people will come back talking about it and encouraged to push harder together! It will not be just you trying to convey a message you learned to others. It will be others who will carry the torch with you and encourage other leaders who weren’t able to go and you have more people on the same page.

So if  you have an opportunity coming up whether it is the Orange Tour or another training offered by another group, utilize it and see how your leaders and ministry are blessed and grow from it.
