How Snapchat’s Context Cards can benefit your Church

It seems that social media networks are constantly changing. Just as you get familiar with them, the algorithms with change or they will add a special new feature. Chalk Snapchat’s latest change to a special new feature. Introducing Context Cards and I believe they will greatly impact Churches for the better.

Check out this short video below about Context Cards.

Context Cards can be found on snaps that are sent to you that are tagged with the Snaps’s venue-specific Geofilters, or any Snap that is public on the ‘Our Story’ feed. You will know which Snaps have Context Cards when you see the “More” text towards the bottom of the Snap you are looking at.

When you swipe up on “More”, Snapchat will first provide basic info including the name and category, as well as ratings sourced from partners including TripAdvisor and Foursquare. Other cards include more detailed information such as user reviews, directions, operating hours, phone numbers, ride hailing options, and reservations. Some believe this can rival Yelp in regards to reviews.

So, how does it help your Church?

Context Cards allow people on Snapchat to learn more information about the location people snap from. And who is on Snapchat most? It’s younger people, the “millennials”. In fact, with the exception of Instagram, more younger people are on Snapchat than basically any other social network. This elusive “millennial” generation is an “in demand” group that the Church is trying to reach. That is why using Context Cards to help reach this younger age demographic is a great opportunity for your Church. So, encourage as many people as possible to send snaps from your Church to their friends so that the “More” options pops up and their friends can learn more about your Church.

In order to maximize the opportunity here, you need to make sure all the information about your Church is correct. Nothing like people trying to find more information out about your Church only to discover that the information is old and outdated. So make sure on all your social networks that you have the correct address, phone number, and website address on them.

Conclusion

As social media networks continue to change, it is important for Churches to be aware of these changes. When Churches know, adapt and fully utilize these networks for all they offer, the more likely they can reach more people. And that is important because hopefully one day, whether that is sooner or later, they might discover more about God and their lives be changed so that they might experience life and life to the full through Christ.
